I found your post just as I was working on the same problem "do more with less" I find these sayings to create an intellectual laziness - and people tend to fall back on these sayings as rallying cries. As you mentioned these only lead to pooor decisions and mis management. One poor case i rememeber was an manager cutting staff hours during the busy season and then refusing to pay overtime - instead he would give them extra time off during the slow season - the thing was that most of these employees were seasonal and they were not employed there during the slow season! that manager was told do more with less.

Wow Mike, you are one old dude, though I have to say, you don't look very German to me!

Thanks for playing along! Always nice to learn new things about folks you know a little bit.

You're not kidding Mike! In person is best for solidifying connections, and for getting a quick reaction. You can create a relationship online via social networking, but to take it to the next level, you need to crank it up in person and press the flesh!

Great meeting you, and glad I could be part of the Pow-Wow with you and the other experts.

Hi Mike:

We're glad you came. You're right; there is some dynamic achieved only when people meet face to face that can never be replaced by any other form of communication.

Thanks for coming!

It was a pleasure meeting you too Mike. I left learning and sharing more than I thought possible in such a short amount of time. I look forward to reading the book.

Keep creating - that's great advice Mike. Use the technology as your lever, NOT as your sole source of differentiation. First mover to web 2.0 is gone, so now you must be a fast (and smarter) second. Leverage your online interactions to get you more, not less, offline contact with your key contacts.

And most of all, don't be afraid to try something new. Tried and trued can also mean been there, done that, if you're not careful.

Mike-

Great stuff and great to meet you at the pow wow. The power of social connections are so much stronger when you can shake a hand and look in someones eye. Especially if it involves snow ball fights outside the Greek restaurant.

I hope to see you again soon. Have a spicy day.
